{ArtSmart}

        Art Smart is a contest for introducing children to famous pieces of art.  This is a challenging and fun activity.  It is not an art contest, so you do not have to be good at drawing to do Art Smart.  Students will study 40 famous paintings, learning their titles and painters.  You will also learn about elements of art, and the history behind each painting.

       Our first practice will be on October 13.  We will practice every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:20-4:00.   Our competition will be held on December 11, 2009.

Want to see the artwork that we are studying?  Click this link for a powerpoint presentation of all of our artwork:

UNDERCOVER PUZZLES
        Click on a puzzle below to see one of our paintings we are studying in Art Smart.  When you see the red, white and blue blocks, click with the mouse to reveal one piece of the painting.  See if you can name the painting and artist before the entire picture is revealed.  (When you get to the black screen at the end of the puzzle, either click on the X in the top right corner to return to this page, or right click the mouse and choose "close".)

Practice Ideas
        Here are a few activities you can try on your own at home to practice:

1.  Let someone describe a picture for you, without using any of the words in the title, while you guess what picture they are describing.
2.  Let someone call out an artist's name, and you tell the painting that goes with that name.
3.  Let someone call out the painting title, and you tell which artist painted it.
4.  Choose 2 paintings and describe the similarities and difference between them (colors, lighting, style, perspective, etc.).
