Aubrey ISD Maintenance and Operations

Mission

Our mission is to provide safe building conditions for the staff, visitors, parents, and most importantly the students of Aubrey ISD.  Safety takes priority over cleanliness, orderliness, cost-effectiveness, and even instructional support. A good maintenance program is built on a foundation of preventive maintenance.  Our growing maintenance team is striving not only to achieve the preventive maintenance goal but to one day build a department that can perform predictive maintenance.

Aubrey ISD contains five campuses. Working together as a team, the men and women of the Maintenance Department strive to provide the best possible environment for working, learning, teaching, and recreation.

We want to know if the services we provide meet the needs of our "customers". This guide describes what services we offer and tells you how to communicate with us when our assistance is needed.

The Facilities staff is dedicated to keeping the physical structures of the district clean, functional and safe within financial and regulatory constraints. The Facilities Services Department exists to serve the students, faculty staff and tax payers of Aubrey Independent School District.

Aubrey ISD Maintenance strives to keep all request and inquires free of red tape. While emergency requests may be phoned in, we ask that ALL maintenance requests be sent in via SchoolDude.com (even emergency requests).  This action covers you and the maintenance dept. because it provides a record of the request.  With five campuses and so many teachers and administrators it is difficult for us to handle all of the phone calls.  So please follow the guidelines above and send all of your requests via SchoolDude.com.  Just visit www. myschoolbuilding.com.  If you fail to follow the above mentioned guidelines, we cannot guarantee that your request will be handled effectively.

        Pest Control

Pest Control is done according to our IPM policies.  IPM coordinators are Jason Massengale and Lendsey Gibbs.  Use the SchoolDude.com reporting system to inform us of any pest problems you have.  Go to the following link and put in a work order.  www.myschoolbuilding.com.

Remember, sanitation is the simplest and cheapest solution to most pest problems.

        WARNING

It is illegal to bring pesticides of any kind onto AISD property. Failure to comply can result in a personal fine of up to $5,000 per can/per day/per occurrence.
If found on school property, products will be confiscated and disposed of without the consent of the purchaser.  Unannounced routine inspections will be made by state inspectors.  Any illegal findings will be reported to the campus principal for possible disciplinary action.

We cannot treat for pests that are not currently infesting the building. We may only treat
specific targeted pests in specific areas. This means we cannot legally just “spray the building for bugs.”

The presence of Bees, and/or Wasps, is considered an emergency!

Reactions to stings can be quite severe. Call the Maintenance Department immediately, identify the exact location of the nest and someone will be dispatched to eliminate them. We cannot come for one individual bee or wasp, but will respond promptly when a swarm or a nest is reported.

        --Fire Ants-

Though Fire Ants are a problem that must be dealt with, not all ants are fire ants.  The state does not consider the presence of ants to be an emergency.  When ants are present in classrooms or other school facilities, there are only three reasons why they are present.  1) Food!  Ants of all kinds look for food.  Remove all traces of food and wipe down the area with soapy water where ants are noticed.  This disturbs the trail they have left for more ants to follow.  2) Water!  Soft drinks attract ants especially if the liquid is spilled.  Please take note of any standing water and remove if possible.  If the problem is structural, please contact the maintenance department. 3) Shelter.  Most school facilities are not condusive to mound building for ants but closets or shelves full of miscellanious items are often used for shelter especially if damp.  Keep your area free of unnecessary clutter.

Regular soap and water kills most insect due to the way they breathe.  Ants are no exception.  Soap and water solutions sprayed or poured on ants will kill them but will not stop new ants from appearing.  Make every effort to keep food and drinks out of the classroom.  When it cannot be avoided, please clean up all drinks/food particles and dispose of them in a plastic bag.  Store any food items, even items that are factory sealed like chips or candy, in air-tight plastic containers that can be sealed.  This will discourage foraging ants, roaches, rodents, and other unwanted pests from infesting the area.

Remember, keeping your area clean and free of food/drink/clutter
is the easiest way to prevent pests from invading.

Keep exterior hallway doors closed to prevent insects and rodents from entering the building from outdoors. This also saves on energy and increases the security of the building against human intruders.

Be as specific as possible about the location of pests when writing work requests or calling in complaints. Example: Ants sighted in room 12 between the window and teacher’s cabinet.

        Preventative Maintenance

Preventative maintenance is a program in which normal wear and tear are anticipated, and continuous corrective actions are taken to ensure peak efficiency and minimize deterioration. It involves a planned and controlled program of systematic inspection, adjustment, lubrication, replacement of components and performance testing and analysis.

In Facilities Maintenance our goal is a comprehensive, system-wide program to identify and carryout long term maintenance and repair of the districts buildings. Supervisors will conduct periodic inspections to evaluate building condition and identify necessary corrective work.
