She was always there to help with anything that required her expertise for the school district, and to help any of her staff or others within the school district who needed help.Mrs. Lawson's daughter, Kalee Meeks, accepted the award for her mother.
Doyle and Mary Ruth Hood moved to Aubrey in the summer of 1965 when the Aubrey ISD was in one building with grades 1 through 10 (grades 11-12 attended Pilot Point school). During his 15-year career as Superintendent in Aubrey (1965-1979), the district underwent many changes. High school students were graduating from Aubrey, and high school athletics were established beginning with basketball and track, and extra-curricular activities including agriculture, home economics, and beta club were established. The football field was built and a band was established.
Mary Hood was Mr. Hood’s support system and worked with him to build the school. She was a first grade teacher during this time. She taught everyone by adapting materials, adjusting teaching strategies and individualized instruction. She was also a fierce and serious fund-raiser at the annual school fall carnival.Mr. and Mrs. Hood's daughters, Ruth Spears and Jeannette Jernigan, accepted the award for their parents.
Nancy Biggs was a life-long resident of Aubrey. She served on the AISD Board of Trustees from 1981 to 1997. She took her position on the board very seriously and was always willing to work unceasingly for what she believed to be the ultimate welfare of the children of the district. Her two sons, Steve and David, attended Aubrey ISD, and she was a volunteer for all room mother duties which included field trips, fund-raisers and any other activity that benefited the students. Her most proud accomplishment was in 1978, she was instrumental in the beginning of the Aubrey High School band program.
Don Biggs (Nancy Biggs' husband), Donna Sims (Nancy's sister) and Steve Biggs (Nancy's son) accepted the award.
