NEWS TO KNOW ABOUT THE 7TH GRADE TEAM
The following tidbits give general information about the seventh grade team. If you have teacher or subject-specific questions, please feel free to email us. In addition, each teacher will send out his/her individual letter on the first day of school.
Q: When is the best day to check the teacher pages?
A: Tuesdays. All teachers try to have their web pages updated before we leave on Mondays. Of course, if we have a personal emergency or if we have a sub., we may not be able to update the pages until later in the week.
Q: When is the best day to check my child’s grades?
A: Tuesdays. Again, personal issues may arise, but generally, we try to have our grades updated before we leave on Mondays.
Q: What is an “M” in Parent Portal?
A: The seventh grade team uses an “M” to indicate a missing assignment, either because the student was absent or because he/she did not turn in the work. An “M” is calculated as a zero but can be changed depending on the circumstances.
Q: What is the seventh grade late work policy?
A: Students have three days to turn in late work. After the third day, it is a zero with a maximum of three late assignments per nine weeks.
Q: What is a discipline book?
A: Most seventh grade teachers use the discipline book to help monitor and document behavior. Students who break a rule sign the discipline book, and infractions add up for three weeks. Students who do not sign the discipline book will earn Wild Cards.
Q: What are Wild Cards?
A: Most seventh grade teachers use Wild Cards to reward students for good behavior. Wild Cards can be earned periodically for the not signing the discipline book in a class. Students may use their Wild Cards to go the restroom, their locker, or if they are running late. At the end of the nine weeks, students with extra Wild Cards will earn at party at the end of the nine weeks.
Q: Does the seventh grade team provide after-school tutoring?
A: Yes. In addition to tutoring during Chap Team Time, every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, at least one teacher is assigned to stay after school from 3:30-4:30 to help students with homework. If your child stays after school, please be here at 4:30 to pick them up at the front of the building.
**In some cases, students who frequently do not turn in homework may be required to stay so that they can start learning successful study habits.
Q: What is Remind?
A: Remind is an app that the seventh grade team uses to communicate with parents. Every week at least one “reminder” text will be sent to your cell phone. You may also choose to get an email.
We are looking forward to a great year. Please call or email us if you have any questions about your kiddo.
