AEF Awards Teacher Grants

The Aubrey Education Foundation awarded 13 grants, totaling $25,997, to Aubrey Independent School District teachers at the district end of year luncheon on Friday, May 24.

The teacher grants are partly funded by endowments from CoServ Charitable Foundation, Boeing, and Aubrey ISDTeachers receive grants Employee Giving.

AEF was able to award two more grants than last year with an additional $2,819. The teacher giving campaign had 42% participation this past school year, an increase of 6% from last year.

“It is hard to put into words the gratitude we have for the community along with the school teachers and administers and what they do for the Education Foundation,” AEF Executive Director Rhonda Brawner said. “We continue to witness great support which increases yearly as the need increases as well. We could not do what we do without them as well as the great group of volunteers.”

This year’s grants include a potter’s wheel for high school art students, green screens for elementary students, mobile makerspaces at both elementary schools, chromebook charging station for the MES 3rd grade team, a floral cooler for floral design classes, five sets of dutch ovens for Outdoor Education classes, and a CNC plasma cutting machine for welding classes.

Brockett 1st grade teacher Britni Smith received two grants: one for an outdoor garden and one for robots that are kindergarten and 1st grade friendly.

“I am beyond excited to be the recipient of two grants this year given by the Aubrey Education Foundation,” Smith said. “I can’t wait to use robotics in my first grade classroom to create an engaging learning environment. First graders will be able to see that robotics is something that they can be successful with. There are several robots that will be accessible for use in STEM challenges as well as enhancing daily tasks in the classroom. This kind of learning would not be possible without the generous financial support by our foundation and community. It means so much to me that they have made my idea real and I will be able to put these materials in the hands of my students.”

AEF technology and innovative grants are offered for individual classrooms and/or teams at Aubrey ISD. The innovative teaching grant is available to teachers, librarians and others who assist in delivering quality educational programs to students. The technology grant is available to campus principals, technology staff and Aubrey ISD administration for technology that will enhance educational programs for teachers and students.

The number of grants awarded is determined by funds allocated by the AEF each year. Grants are selected by a committee comprised of administrators and AEF's Program Allocations Committee.
