Brockett Receives Promising Practices Award

Brockett Elementary was one of 246 schools to receive a Promising Practices Award from Brockett’s Helping Hearts Workshop, which was held in December, was selected as a 2020 Promising Practice. certified 246 Promising Practices in schools and organizations across the parent and child work on project at table country that foster character development in children and teens. This year’s character development practices and initiatives included peer mentoring, service-learning, and conflict resolution approaches.

“Brockett has a rich history of coming together to meet the needs of their own,” Brockett principal Courtney Siggers said. “This year, we decided to plan a Helping Hearts workshop to be able to help the heroes in our community. Each grade level decided on a business within the community and a project to benefit the needs of those businesses. Families then donated items that we were able to use, and we came together as a school community to be a positive light to others and help to meet some needs during the holidays.”

Projects included blessing bags, tied blankets for nursing homes and animal shelters, water bottles for the fire department and care packages donated to a cancer center.

According to the email received from, Brockett’s “Promising Practice demonstrated significant impact and is fully aligned with one or more of’s 11 Principles Framework for Schools: A Guide to Cultivating a Culture of Character.”

 Brockett was named a Texas School of Character for 2015-17, and a  National School of Character for 2016-21. The school received the Promising Practices award in 2016 and 2017.
