Aubrey ISD Announces Start of Boys and Girls Soccer Programs
Aubrey ISD Athletics Director Keith Ivy has announced the hiring of two coaches to begin the process of starting boys and girls soccer programs at Aubrey High School.
James DuMond was hired as the inaugural boys head soccer coach, and MJ Woodward was named the first head girls soccer coach at Aubrey High School.
For the 2022-23 school year, the coaching staff will focus on building the programs, recruiting players, holding practices and scheduling non-UIL games. The AHS soccer programs will not be participating in UIL soccer in this first year. The programs will be evaluated after the first season to determine future entry to UIL competition.
“We are excited about starting a boys and girls soccer program here at Aubrey High School,” Coach Ivy said. “With the increased enrollment along with the growth coming into the district, I feel that we are ready to add a quality soccer program. Any time that you begin a new program, you have to make sure that we have the number of participants in order to field the teams. We also want to instill our winning tradition of our athletic program into these new programs.”
Coach DuMond has 15 years of experience in coaching high school boys soccer. He is coming to Aubrey from Frisco ISD, where he was an assistant coach at Frisco Memorial High School for the last three years. He was an assistant coach at Arlington Seguin for six years and also coached at Duncanville High School and Red Oak High School. Coach DuMond will teach science at AHS.
On the girls side, Coach Woodward has served as the head coach of the South Garland High School girls soccer team for the last five years. In 2018, she took the varsity team to the playoffs for the first time in 12 years and was voted District 10-6A Coach of the Year. Coach Woodward will teach Chap Team Time at Aubrey Middle School.
“We interviewed numerous candidates for the head soccer positions,” Coach Ivy said. “Through the process, we were looking for hard-working coaches to build, recruit and organize these programs. Coach Dumond and Coach Woodward stood out along with their soccer experience, and they are excited to meet the expectations of Aubrey ISD and Aubrey Athletics. We are blessed to have them here in our community to lead these new programs.”
Aubrey High School currently competes in UIL Class 4A in football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, baseball, softball, boys and girls golf and boys and girls track. AHS also competes in boys and girls powerlifting.
