Girls' Powerlifting Team Competes at Regionals

Girls' Powerlifting Team


Ellie Davis placed 5th in her weight class at the regional girls’ powerlifting meet on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Six Aubrey High School students advanced to the regional meet at Anna High School.


“The girls did a great job of working hard all season long,” Aubrey girls’ powerlifting coach Ron Gathright said. “All of the girls make significant improvement in the amount of weight they were able to lift. We are a very young team, so we have a bright future for our girls powerlifting team.”


Ellie Davis, Riane Maher, McKenzie Spielman, Faith Ferguson, Dana McAlister and Cailey Hawkins all competed at the regional meet.


In the 165 pound weight class, Davis brought home a 5th place medal by finishing with a total of 655 lbs.  She moved up from 7th place in the regular season standings.


In the 97 pound weight class, Riane Maher went from 9th place to 8th place with a total of 350 pounds.


In the 114 pound weight class, Dana McAlister moved from 10th to 8th place with a total of 505 pounds.


Also in the 165 pound class, Cailey Hawkins jumped all the way from 11th place to 8th place with a total of 625 pounds.


In the 181 pound weight class, Mackenzie Spielman placed 11th with a total of 590 pounds.
