“We challenged the team at Huckabee Architects to design something that is world class that would fit into the overall scope of the campus,” Aubrey ISD Superintendent Dr. David Belding said. “We wanted to make sure our fine arts program had everything they need, and we designed it with the additional capacity in mind.”

The new auditorium will be 28,000 square feet containing 710 seats. It will include a an orchestra pit, a prop room, and an 1,000 square foot black box theatre for smaller performances.

The entrance of the auditorium will include an art exhibit area for the visual arts program to display their art.

The new band hall will be 3,000 square feet. The present band hall will be renovated into a suite of practice rooms and dressing rooms for theater and prop storage.

The choir hall renovation is off the existing cafeteria space and will include 2300 feet of space. Aubrey High School started a choir program this year.

AHS senior and band member Erin Lim spoke about how she can’t wait to see how much the band program will improve with the additions.

“I have spent the majority of my time in high school in the ball hall, practicing,” Erin said. “You can only do so much in that room. When this big project is done, I know our performance level will jump up so high because our students will know what to expect when performing in an auditorium.”

Sophomore Martavious Hill who participates in the theatre program also spoke.

“We can see that the community has hope in us, and that means everything.”

Aubrey ISD school board member Colleen Dow who has been a huge supporter of this project spoke on behalf of the board and expressed her passion and excitement for the additions.

Pogue Construction Vice President Zach Walker presented a ceremonial shovel to Dr. Belding and AHS principal Matt Gore at the end of the ceremony to commemorate the beginning of construction.

Dr. Belding, school board members, AHS principal Matt Gore, Erin Lim, Martavious Hill, representatives from Huckabee Architects and Pogue Construction all turned over the first shovel of soil.

Voters in Aubrey ISD passed a $51 million bond package in November 2017. The construction projects to be addressed with bond package were the construction of a third elementary school, additions and renovations to Brockett Elementary, Monaco Elementary and Aubrey Middle School, additions and renovations to the agriculture science facility, and a new band hall and auditorium at Aubrey High School.
