Summer Learning: Fire Safety
This week, the Aubrey Fire Department dropped by our elementary summer school to talk to the kids about fire safety—just in time for the Fourth of July!
Here are five fire safety tips from the United States Fire Administration (USFA) to keep everyone safe this summer:
1. Build Campfires Safely: Make sure campfires are at least 25 feet away from tents, bushes, and anything that could catch fire.
2. Supervise Kids Around Fires: Always keep an eye on kids when there’s a fire pit. They’re curious and might get too close.
3. Store Matches and Lighters Safely: Keep matches and lighters out of kids’ sight and reach. They can be very tempting.
4. Properly Extinguish Fires: Before heading to bed or leaving the backyard, make sure all fires are completely out.
5. Leave Fireworks to the Pros: The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to watch a professional display.
Thanks to the Aubrey Fire Department for the visit and for helping us stay safe!

Excitement Builds as West Family Visits New Elementary School
Carson West, alongside his sister Teresa West Mancuso and brother-in-law Gus Mancuso, visited the construction site of the soon-to-open West Elementary School. Named in honor of their parents, Pete and Myra West, the campus is set to open its doors in Fall 2024.
The Aubrey Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees officially approved the naming of Elementary School #4 as Pete and Myra West Elementary School at their March meeting. The decision celebrates the Wests' long-standing dedication to education within the Aubrey ISD community, where both served as educators for many years.
Pictured below, the West children proudly show off their West Elementary gear.

This educational trailer can showcase up to seven different crops and livestock, including corn, cotton, grain sorghum, pork, and cattle. Thank you Farm Bureau for the unique learning opportunity.

We hope everyone is having an amazing start to summer. It's never too early to start planning for a fantastic school year. With that in mind, here's a reminder: the first day of school will be Wednesday, August 14. A printable 2024-2025 calendar can be found here: https://bit.ly/3KzlD7b
