The Lady Chaps won 13-0 tonight against neighboring school, Pilot Point. Lilly Stewart scored 1 goal, Brynnlee Bohannon had 3 goals and 2 assists, Macy Childers had 3 goals and 2 assists, Laney Lomas scored 2 goals, Maria Maldonado had 2 goals and 1 assists, Jordin Gomez had 2 goals and 1 assist, Kendall Sweetman had 1 assist, Emma Gillum had 1 assist, Alison Fleming had 1 assist, Emerson Briley had 1 assist, and Alexis Quinn had 1 assist. Goalies, Allie Crose and Lexis Jones achieved a shut out tonight, with the support of our defensive team. The girls will return to action on Friday, Feb. 9th at Home as they take on Gainesville. JV will kick-off at 5:30, followed by Varsity at 7:15!

The Aubrey Boys Soccer team secured a victory tonight against a scrappy new Pilot Point team at home. It was a special evening with our youth joining us for Youth Night festivities. Thank you to all middle school and Aubrey Youth who showed up to attend the game. We can’t wait for you to play for us one day, and you are welcome to come out anytime to hang out with the high school soccer players. Following the girls’ big victory, the boys started with a slow first half, leading 1-0 with a goal scored by freshman Osvaldo Osorio about halfway through. In the second half, Aubrey played a more attacking brand of soccer, connecting more passes and possessing the ball with excitement. Clark Stewart scored the second goal early in the second half, followed by Juan Serrano and Aiden Pearson, making it 4-0 with roughly 20 minutes remaining. Pilot Point scored on a penalty kick with no time left, bringing the final score to 4-1. The Chaps take on Gainesville at Gainesville on Friday at 7:15 PM.

The Aubrey Lady Chaps secured a playoff berth for the eighth year in a row with a 46-40 win over Ranchview. The Lady Chaps improve to 4-6 in district and 13-15 overall. Score by quarters for Aubrey were 19, 8, 10, 9. Score by quarters for Ranchview were 10, 4, 18, 8. Scorers for Aubrey were Kynadi Hall with 14 points, Brooklyn Weier with 13, Addy Cagle with 8 points, Landry Gannon and Abby Buxton with 4 points each, and Molly Ward with 3 points. I was very proud of this team for continuing to work hard and battle after starting district at 1-5. They continued to work hard in practice and kept a very positive attitude. I was also very proud of the way they wanted to keep the playoff streak alive. The Lady Chaps will now face Oak Cliff Faith Family in the bi-district round of the playoffs. The renovations to Aubrey High School are currently underway. The construction project, which is part of the 2022 bond package, includes an addition to the school that will increase capacity to 2,000 students by expanding the parking lot and adding a second level to the front of the campus. The estimated completion date for the construction is 2026.

Today, we continue our expression of appreciation to the dedicated Aubrey Independent School District (AISD) counselors who provide invaluable support to students in various areas. These counselors play a crucial role in assisting students with academic achievement strategies, helping them manage their emotions, and fostering the development of essential interpersonal skills. The Aubrey Boys Soccer team played against Anna this afternoon in a Saturday noon kickoff. The boys had a very defensive first half against a counter-attacking Anna team that was solid on the flanks. Both teams had roughly equal opportunities in the first half, but despite their best efforts, the score at halftime was 0-0. Aubrey came out in the second half with the wind and a more attacking mindset to battle it out and grind out a 1-0 win. The goal was scored in the run of play by Juan Serrano, and Aubrey had many more set piece opportunities, but could not capitalize. The defensive backline was stellar, holding off some relentless set piece opportunities by Anna. Defensive recognition goes to Spencer Berger, Osvaldo Osorio, Clark Stewart, and Luke Travascio. Please come out and support the boys as they take on Pilot Point next Tuesday for Aubrey Youth Soccer Night at Aubrey Chaparral Stadium at 7:15 PM!

Scorers for Aubrey were Kynadi Hall with 12 points, Shelby Harrington with 11, Brooklyn Weier with 9, and Addie Cagle and Abby Buxton with 2 points each. I was very proud of the way the girls finished the game tonight. We outscored Celina 11-5 in the fourth quarter and hit some big free throws at the end to seal the victory. I was also proud of the way the team played defensively by holding Celina under 30 points. The Lady Chaps return to action for the final regular season game at home on Tuesday night against Ranchview. We will also be honoring Brooklyn Weier and Madison Temple on senior night.

In February, the United States celebrates Black History Month, honoring the achievements and history of African Americans. Today, we focus on Alma Thomas, an educator and artist. Mrs. Thomas dedicated over 30 years to teaching middle school and found joy in painting her surroundings in Washington DC. She is renowned for her ability to see abstract beauty in ordinary objects. Alma Woodsey Thomas once said, "Through color, I have sought to concentrate on beauty and happiness, rather than on man's inhumanity to man.

Tonight, the Aubrey Chaparrals came just shy of beating a state-ranked Celina team. We lost 1-2 from two set pieces, a corner and a free kick. At halftime, Aubrey was down 2-0, but came out fighting in the second half with a goal from Juan Paredes about 10 minutes into the second half. Aubrey had a relentless attack but just couldn't put the ball in for the second goal. Aubrey will take on Anna at Anna on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 12 p.m.

Aubrey improved our overall record to 21-9 and 4-2 in district play with a big win over Van Alstyne. This was one of those wins that you just have to gut it out and keep fighting to the very end. Van Alstyne’s size and defensive zone that they run gave us a lot of trouble at their place, so we knew we had to move the ball well and be in attack mode to have a chance to win. I still believe that any team in this district can beat any other team on any given night. Our boys know we cannot be satisfied and that we need to bring our best effort this coming Friday at Celina. The Aubrey Lady Chaps improved to 2-6 in district and 11-15 overall with a 38-34 win over Van Alstyne. The score by quarters for Aubrey were 10, 8, 12, 8, while the score by quarters for Van Alstyne were 10, 10, 4, 10. Scorers for Aubrey were Brooklyn Weier with 22 points, Kynadi Hall with 6, Shelby Harrington with 4, and Landry Gannon, Molly Ward, and Abby Buxton with 2 points each. This was a big win for us tonight. The girls did an excellent job on the defensive end of the floor. Brooklyn really got going scoring-wise in the first half with four threes before halftime. The girls did a great job at the end of the game to keep us ahead. The Lady Chaps return to action on Friday night at Celina.

Progress is being made on Elementary #4 and Middle School #2. The new elementary is set to open August 2024, while the middle school is scheduled to open August 2025. These campuses are part of the bond that was passed in 2022. It is an exciting time to be a Chaparral!

The Chaparrals come up short Friday night. Coach Smith Reports: Aubrey's overall record now stands at 20-9 and 3-2 in district play with a loss to a very tough Anna team. We started the game hot, exchanging buckets with Anna and hitting 3 threes in the first quarter. Anna has the quickest team in the district and they are also extremely good shooters, which is a tough combination to defend. We were tied at 17 in the first quarter with a minute to go, and Anna made a short run to take the lead. They had another run on us in the second quarter, causing us to go into halftime down 12 points. I am extremely proud of how our guys came out in the second half and played very aggressively, making good plays on both ends of the floor. We cut the lead to 5 points with 3 minutes to go, but Anna hit a couple of threes to extend the lead back. I am very proud of this team with how hard they compete. We have a tough second round ahead of us with 3 of the 5 remaining games at home. This will be a fun team to come out and support over the next 2 weeks. The Aubrey Soccer Program Sweeps Farmersville Friday Night Coach Woodward Reports: The Aubrey Girls soccer team won their first district home game against Farmersville with a score of 8-2! The Lady Chaps now have a record of 4-4 overall and 1-1 in district. Macy Childers scored 3 goals and assisted 1 goal, while Brynnlee Bohannon scored 3 goals. Landry Gannon scored 1 goal and assisted 1 goal, and Laney Lomas, Lilly Stewart, Kendall Sweetman, and Alexis Quinn each assisted 1 goal. The girls' next game will be on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Celina at 7:15 p.m. Coach Dumond Reports: Last night was a special night for Aubrey Soccer as the boys played in a nail-biter against a scrappy Farmersville team. The first half was spent in the midfield with a few opportunities for both teams, and Aubrey fighting against the wind. However, neither team managed to find the back of the net in the first half. In the second half, Farmersville played a very compact game while Aubrey dominated possession and took shot after shot, but still couldn't find the goal. The game ended in a 0-0 tie in regulation. It then went to penalty kicks, with Aubrey winning 4-3. The penalty kicks were scored respectively by Spencer Berger, Vladyslav Dryshliuk, Aiden Pearson, and Osvaldo Osorio. Next Tuesday, Aubrey will face district rival Celina at home with a 7:15 p.m. kick-off. We encourage everyone to come out and pack the stands!

All Aubrey ISD schools and district buildings will be open as scheduled tomorrow, Jan. 26, 2024. Water has been restored to residents, however the Town of Providence Village has issued a boil water notice. We thank Providence Village officials for their diligence in providing updates.
