Let's GUAC about it! The Aubrey ISD District Leadership Team (DLT) had their annual retreat on July 22, 2024. Superintendent Dr. Shannon Saylor led the retreat with discussions on leadership that included a "Guac Off" with teams working together with avocados and other ingredients to make the best guacamole. The entries were judged on a variety of factors, including taste and presentation. It was a fun and creative way to collaborate and get the school year off to a great start! At the 96th annual Texas FFA State Convention in Houston, Jace Looper, Tucker McDonald, and Berkeley Noles from the Aubrey FFA Chapter were awarded the Lone Star FFA Degree, the highest honor from the Texas FFA. This recognition is given to members who have been active for at least two years, completed four semesters of agricultural science, maintained a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program, and demonstrated leadership and commitment to the FFA. Over 2,300 members received the Lone Star FFA Degree at the convention, which saw about 16,000 attendees. Chaparral Legacy Cooperative Nearly two dozen seniors showed up for the first Chaparral Legacy Cooperative to learn more about Aubrey ISD. Deputy Superintendent Terrie McNabb welcomed all and gave an overview while Superintendent Dr. Shannon Saylor, who was behind the idea for the cooperative, provided an extensive update on growth and opportunities. Aubrey High School's Cooper Wilson Excels in NASA's Aerospace Scholars Program Aubrey High School student Cooper Wilson was selected last year to participate in NASA's Aerospace Scholars STEM program. He worked virtually all year with a team of students from around the country on space-themed projects. Their efforts earned them a score of 274 out of 280 and an invitation from Johnson Space Center to participate in the next phase of the program. They will work on Artemis-themed missions to the Moon and Mars, guided by NASA engineers and scientists who will oversee their research, designs, and final presentations. Isaac is a frontrunner in the “Stuck at Prom” contest, where contestants create their entire prom dress or tux out of duct tape. According to Isaac’s entry, it took him 16 rolls of tape and 123 hours to complete his masterpiece, which was inspired by three things: faith, family, and freedom. Members of Aubrey High School’s award-winning E-Sports team along with Coach Paul Burrow were interviewed by The Post-Signal about their state-level accomplishments. These “ethletes” as they are called are looking forward to the upcoming school year to build upon their success.

Aubrey ISD Bands Impress The Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) The Outstanding Performance Series (OPS), organized by the ATSSB, is a state-wide annual contest where bands submit recordings of their UIL or festival performances. Bands must pass region and area rounds to reach the state level, which features the top 10 marches and top 15 concert pieces. This year, our middle school advanced to the state level for the first time with both a march and a concert piece. Our high school's non-varsity band also made history by advancing to the state level in the newly established non-varsity category. Additionally, the Aubrey High School varsity ensemble advanced their march to the state level, marking their fourth advancement after previous successes in 2009, 2012, and 2016. Remarkably, this year we have five recordings advancing to the state level, a significant increase from the three times Aubrey had ever advanced in the contest's history. The state OPS contest adjudication will take place at the TBA convention at the end of July.

Their cheer coach, Ms. Hurley, expressed her excitement, stating, “I am so excited about this group of young ladies. Summer Learning: Fire Safety This week, the Aubrey Fire Department dropped by our elementary summer school to talk to the kids about fire safety—just in time for the Fourth of July! Here are five fire safety tips from the United States Fire Administration (USFA) to keep everyone safe this summer: 1. Build Campfires Safely: Make sure campfires are at least 25 feet away from tents, bushes, and anything that could catch fire. 2. Supervise Kids Around Fires: Always keep an eye on kids when there’s a fire pit. They’re curious and might get too close. 3. Store Matches and Lighters Safely: Keep matches and lighters out of kids’ sight and reach. They can be very tempting. 4. Properly Extinguish Fires: Before heading to bed or leaving the backyard, make sure all fires are completely out. 5.
