Ward and Miller were tough to defend in the middle, while Chloe Miller provided solid play on the outside. Hampton distributed the ball well to the hitters, and both she and Conley anchored the defense. The Lady Chaps return to action Tuesday, Sept. 9, when they open district play against Gainesville. JV begins at 5 p.m., followed by varsity.

Despite a late push, the Lady Chaps couldn’t swing the momentum. They regrouped, however, and took control over the remainder of the match. Middle hitters Ward and Miller led the way, keeping Melissa off balance. Aubrey’s defense also stood out, recording 128 digs as a team. Hampton directed the offense and kept the Cardinals guessing, while Michael provided a spark off the bench with a strong performance. Aubrey will return to action Friday, Sept. 5, when it hosts Ponder. The varsity plays at 4:30 p.m., followed by the junior varsity.

I was very proud of us for fighting through different adverse situations and finding ways to be successful. This was our third tournament championship appearance, and I feel like we learned from our last two championships that didn’t go our way. We got down early to Bushland but never gave up. We found a way to get back in the set and come back to win the first set at the end of the match. We looked much more in control in the second set of the championship game. This was a great way to close out tournament play, getting two games against a team like Bushland. They know how to win and don’t give you points. “I am proud of Shaelyn Ward and Chloe Miller for being named to the All-Tournament Team. We have a lot to be proud of from the tournament season. We had five different kids named to an All-Tournament team: Ward, Hampton, K. Miller, C. Miller and Conley. We have a tough week ahead against two good programs, Melissa and Ponder. We will travel to Melissa on Tuesday and be at home Friday against Ponder.”
