On Saturday, Feb. 8, the Aubrey boys soccer team faced Panther Creek in its final game of the first round of district play. The match was a back-and-forth battle, with much of the action in the midfield. Aubrey played against a strong south wind in the first half but still took a 1-0 lead after Aiden Pearson delivered a free kick to Connor Gourd, who found the net. In the second half, the wind and momentum shifted. Aubrey, now playing against a strong northern wind, adjusted to a more defensive strategy but conceded three goals off corner kicks, resulting in a 3-1 loss. Aubrey will face Sanger next Tuesday on its bye day before traveling to Celina next Friday.

The Lady Chaps soccer team took on a very physical Gainesville side. After conceding a goal in the first minute, LCS showed resilience by equalizing five minutes later. Senior Macy Childers was fouled in the box, earning a penalty kick, which she confidently converted for the first of her two first-half goals. Gainesville regained the lead in the 23rd minute, but LCS never lost hope. With eight minutes left in the first half, Childers collected a throw-in from junior Emerson Briley and fired a shot into the upper 90 from 25 yards out, tying the game at 2-2. The second half started just as physically as the first. In the second minute, Childers was fouled again near midfield, where she delivered a well-placed ball into the box for a smart tap-in by freshman Daniella Dominic-Etuk, giving LCS its first lead at 3-2. They would not relinquish it. Six minutes later, the freshman forwards combined for a beautifully worked goal, finished by Kali Madden off a selfless pass from Dominic-Etuk. To cap off the scoring, recent JV call-up sophomore Felicity Steele tapped in a well-executed corner from Childers. Gainesville managed to score two more goals, but the Lady Chaps finished the physical game with composure and grace, securing a 5-4 victory. The win improves their record to 8-1 on the season and 3-1 in district play. LCS is back at home Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 5:30 p.m., with the boys playing immediately afterward. Stats: Macy Childers, Sr. – 2 goals, 2 assists Daniella Dominic-Etuk, Fr. – 1 goal, 1 assist Kali Madden, Fr. – 1 goal Felicity Steele, So. – 1 goal Emerson Briley, Jr. – 1 assist

The Aubrey boys’ soccer team suffered a tough 2-1 loss to Gainesville on Friday night in a district matchup. Aubrey took the lead in the 17th minute when Carlos Vicencio sent a ball into the box, and senior Aiden Pearson finished to put the Chaparrals up 1-0 at halftime. The second half was a back-and-forth battle, with Aubrey maintaining possession and pressing on offense. Gainesville found the equalizer with 20 minutes left. As both teams prepared for a potential penalty shootout, Aubrey committed a foul with 17 seconds remaining. Gainesville capitalized on the free kick to seal the 2-1 win. Despite the loss, coach DuMond said it was the best soccer he has seen from his team in his three years with the program. Aubrey looks to bounce back in a crucial district matchup against Pilot Point on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. at home.
