Chaparral Course Connection begins fall 2026 for high school students
The Aubrey Independent School District (ISD) will offer virtual and hybrid instruction for high school students in grades 9-12 beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. Chaparral Course Connection will offer students an alternative approach to learning beyond the traditional classroom.
Students in the Chaparral Course Connection program are enrolled as Aubrey High School students and will graduate upon meeting all academic requirements. To be eligible for enrollment, students must be on track with their graduation plan.
“The online and hybrid options at Aubrey High School recognize that families have choices, and while those options exist elsewhere, we believe they’re best found in Aubrey ISD,” Superintendent Dr. Shannon Saylor said.
The Chaparral Course Connection is “designed for students seeking an alternative structure that aligns with their goals or circumstances,” Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Learning Joanie Rouk said. “The program maintains rigorous academic standards and strong support systems, and our focus is to expand opportunities while preparing every student for college, career, and life beyond graduation.”
As a fast-growth district with enrollment going from 2500 students in 2021 to now nearing 5000, class offerings have evolved and will continue to do so to keep up with expansion.
“Aubrey ISD’s transition to virtual learning options reflects our commitment to meeting the needs of a growing district,” Director of Student Services Jewelisha Jefferson said. “By expanding flexible learning pathways, we are increasing access to instruction while supporting the various obligations of our students and families.”
The Chaparral Course Connection program is only available to grades 9-12 at this time. Students may enroll as full-time virtual if all courses are available online, or hybrid which is a combination of virtual and face-to-face courses.
Aubrey High School Principal Dr. Vanessa Zavar welcomes this additional learning model for students.
“As a premier educational facility, Aubrey High School stays current in educational changes and growth,” Dr. Zavar said. “One current best practice that allows students to maintain the quality and variety of their education, while simply changing the “how” they get their education, is a virtual school option.”
Dr. Saylor sees the Chaparral Course Connection as an opportunity to give families options that allow them to maintain a bond with the District.
“By offering flexible, transparent pathways, we empower parents to shape an education that truly fits their child’s goals, strengths, and future while keeping our students proud Chaparrals.”
