The Lady Chaps defeated Celina in four sets on Friday night. We did a great job in set one of starting fast and limiting our unforced errors. We carried that with us into the second set. We had a few more hitting errors in the second set, but we did a really good job of not allowing Celina to go on runs. We started too slow in the third set and allowed Celina to take an early lead. We finished the third set strong; we just couldn't make up the difference. We looked much more relaxed in the fourth set. I was very pleased with the urgency, energy, and determination that we played with throughout the match. We are tied with Celina for first in the district with one district game to go. We will play our last district match on Tuesday, October 24th as we host Ranchview. This will be our senior night, and we will honor our seniors Olivia Starr, Kaitlyn Walters, Annaleise Sevier, and Madison Temple before the JV game at 4:45 pm. Please come out and help us honor these wonderful seniors. JV will play at 5:00 pm, followed by varsity.

We started finding our rhythm in set two and played a much cleaner set. We continued that rhythm the rest of the way. We really found our rhythm in set 4 and controlled from start to finish of the set. We looked much more fluid on defense from start to finish of the match. We did a much better job after the first set of limiting our hitting mistakes as well. We did a really good job of getting every hitter involved in the offense. DeAnn Hellman Morris, Tracy Yarbrough, and Marilyn Hampton were recently inducted as Chaparral Elite for 2023. DeAnn Hellman Morris moved to Aubrey in 5th grade. During her time as a student in Aubrey ISD, she wrote the lyrics for the current school song and was valedictorian of her class. After graduating, Morris continued to actively support Aubrey ISD. She played a pivotal role in the construction of the Chaparral Football Stadium, championing the bond that made it possible. Tracy Yarbrough, affectionately known as TY by those that know him, dedicated 18 years of his life to being an Aubrey ISD AG Teacher, FFA Advisor, and football announcer. Graduating from Aubrey High School in 1979, he was a standout quarterback for the Chaparrals. Throughout his career, Yarbrough played a pivotal role in shaping young men and women into resilient and capable leaders. Ms. Hampton dedicated 39 years of service to Aubrey ISD, ensuring clean and healthy school buildings for students. Ms. Marilyn consistently pursued excellence in her work, serving teachers, staff, students, and the community. She poured her whole heart into her service. We would like to extend our congratulations to the 2023 Chaparral Elite inductees. Their exceptional achievements and contributions have earned them this outstanding honor.

The Lady Chaps defeated Anna in 4 sets tonight. We struggled in the first set, but settled down and took the win. We played well in the second set. In the third set, we made unforced errors and couldn't establish our rhythm. However, we took control from the start in set 4 and never looked back. Our defense was strong and we kept Anna out of system with our spot serving. We had too many unforced errors on offense and need to improve. We will be hosting Van Alstyne on Tuesday for our second to last home game of the season. Come out and support your Lady Chaps.
